PALM SPRINGS, CA - The Florida Atlantic softball team lost both of its games on the third day of the Palm Springs Classic.
FAU fell to the United States Olympic team 9-0 in five innings in their first game on Saturday night.
The Owls faced pitchers Jennie Finch and Cat Osterman in the exhibition game. Team USA scored a run in each of the first three innings before blowing the game open with five in the fourth inning to make the score 8-0. The U. S. added another run in the bottom of the fifth. Under the "eight-run" rule, the game would have normally ended after the top of the fourth, but the game was continued to allow more players from both teams to participate.
The game ended after five and a half innings by mutual agreement of the coaching staffs.
In their second game of the day, the Owls lost to Pacific 13-0. The Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. They scored in all five innings before the game ended under the eight run rule. Amber Barton took the loss, pitching five innings and allowing nine earned runs in her sixth complete game of the year. Chelsea Noble threw a complete game shutout for the Beavers.
FAU (5-8) moves on to the final day of the Palm Springs Classic, where they will face Oregon State at 2:00 p.m. eastern followed by UNLV at 4:00 pm eastern.
