BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic softball team went 1-1 in extra inning games on Friday, beating North Carolina State 6-3 in 10 innings and falling to Kent State 2-1 in eight innings.
In their first game on Friday, Amber Barton gave the Owls (3-3) a 1-0 lead with a homerun in the bottom of the first. It was the Owls' first homerun of the season. The Owls were down 4-3 headed to the bottom of the 10th. Blair Bodenmiller scored on a popup to shallow left field when the Wolfpack shortstop fell down while fielding the ball. An Amy Bukovich double and a walk of Barton gave the Owls runners on first and second when Becky Brandies stepped to the plate. Brandies sent Mendy McKenzie's pitch over the fence in left field to take the game for FAU. Barton went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and threw a complete game in the victory.
Against Kent State in the nightcap, the game was tied at 1 in the bottom of the eighth. Jessica Toocheck sacrificed Kim Hamilton over to third. Hamilton scored when Amy Bukovich mishandled a Jessica Carmichael grounder to win the game for the Golden Flashes. The game was a defensive struggle as the two teams combined for just seven hits in eight innings.
The Owls return to action on Saturday for Day Two of the Strike Out Cancer Tournament, when they face Miami (OH) at 6 p.m. followed by Missouri State at 8 p.m. All of the day's action will be available via GameTracker on fausports.com.
