The Florida Atlantic University football team began preparations for Saturday's Sun Belt Conference game against the University of Louisiana at Monroe Warhawks. Conditions for practice were clear, calm and cool.
The FAU defense prepared for the Warhawk's spread offense, which averages nearly 25 points per game. On the other side of the ball, FAU's offense is coming off one of its most productive games on the ground this season and will focus throughout this week on continuing production against UL-Monroe. The offense also worked on blitz pick up, third and long, and first and 10 drills. Kickoff returns were also exercised, where junior Jeff Blanchard has been handling most of the responsibilities and averaging almost 23 yards per return.
FAU faces UL-Monroe on Saturday, October 25 at 7 p.m. in Monroe, LA, and then will return to Lockhart Stadium for homecoming against the University of North Texas on Saturday, November 8 at 4 p.m. For information on tickets call 1-866-FAU-OWLS. October 22, 2008

ULM Match up
They are a team that beat us last year and I expect they are as disappointed in their season as we are in ours. So, this (weekend's game) will be two teams coming together with both teams having a mission on their hands. In situations like this, both teams get the best out of their abilities. I'm hopeful that we will play as well as we did in that game (WKU) with the exception of the things that I mentioned to you yesterday, four drops that killed the drive, a penalty that killed a drive and a fumble that killed a drive. If we do that, we can win the game, if we don't do that if we continue to make errors to negate a great performance our extraordinary effort that this football team is generating, then we will come out a loser. If we keep our errors at a minimum then we will come out a winner.
Success Running the Ball
It is a very valuable tool to be able to run well enough to pick your spots to throw. That is what we have always tried to do. Last year we were almost in a perfect run/pass, right at 50%. That is what our offense is geared to do. Our offense, we have the ability to go into a spread, shot gun and a long yardage situation and be able to run well enough out of that formation that people can't play us simply as a passing formation. When we get into the "I" or at time four formation we run the ball more than we pass it, but it sets up such a good play action that it gives the defense problems. In essence we have two different kinds of offense, one that leads with the pass and spread and the other a tight end and two backs like a traditional pro style attack which allows us to run the ball more. So I'm glad that we established the prominence of pressure point of running the ball.
