BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team picked up its first win of the spring with a 5-2 decision over Samford University on Wednesday afternoon at Patch Reef Park in Boca Raton. After taking the doubles point, Olivier Sajous, Marc Abdelnour, Karl Szmurlo and Joshua Scholl each won their singles match.
Abdelnour teamed with Joe Cadogan as the No. 1 doubles team and defeated Samford's Joradn Delass and Renan Silveira 8-5 and Sajous and Daniel Vardag won the second doubles match 8-6 over Hank Grant and Sam Huffman, 8-6, to pick up the first point of the afternoon.
Sajous had to rebound from a deficit to defeat Delass 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot. FAU easily won at the No. 2 and No. 4 spot as Abdelnour disposed of Silverat 6-1, 6-3 and Karol Szmurlo defeated Brian Dushock at No. 4, 6-2, 6-4. Playing in his first match of the spring, Joshua Scholl defeated Richard Walsh at No. 6, 6-7 (4), 6-2, 10-3.
FAU (1-1) goes on the road Thursday to play No. 36 University of Miami in Coral Gales at 2 p.m.
