The Florida Atlantic University football team went back to the practice field on Tuesday as an undefeated team at 1-0 for the first time since 2004.
Today their biggest opponent were the dark clouds surrounding the FAU practice field. The threat of lightning in the area caused FAU to delay practice midway through team drills after about an hour and a half on the field. After a short delay, the Owls were back on the field and able to complete team drills.
The defense were shown the option and spread sets that will be run on Saturday by Oklahoma State. Defensive backs Kris Bartels and Tavious Polo were able to come up with interceptions during practice off of the scout team.
The running backs were sharp on offense. Charles Pierre, B.J. Manley and DiIvory Edgecomb were able to break away for long runs. And Rusty Smith looked good while working on goal line offense after the delay. He hit Jason Harmon and Chris Bonner for touchdowns. Smith knows it will take a big time effort on Saturday to knock off the Cowboys.
"They're gonna be bigger, faster, and stronger," said Smith. "So we're going to go into this game prepared to play harder to play stronger and to play bigger than this past week."
FAU faces the Oklahoma State Cowboys this Saturday, September 8th at 7:05 p.m. in Stillwater, Oklahoma. You can listen to the game on WMEN-AM 640 in South Florida or online at www.fausports.com.
