The Florida Atlantic University football team returned to the practice field on Tuesday as they get ready to go on the road to resume non-conference play against the no. 14 Kentucky Wildcats.
Heavy rain earlier in the day forced the Owls to practice on the turf field at the FAU Track and Field complex. Threatening weather also forced Head Coach Howard Schnellenberger to drop seven-on-seven drills; however the Owls were able to get their full team practice in. The defense prepared for Kentucky by practicing against the hard count, and against their pro-set and option sets. John Mertilus, Jermaine Council, and Ryan Solazzo took snaps with the first unit on the defensive line.
On the other side of the ball, the offense worked on improving the run and on the shotgun sets. Rusty Smith had a solid practice, as he hit Jason Harmon on the numbers during team drills late in practice. Running back Charles Pierre also got loose for a couple of decent gains against the scout team.
Saturday's game between FAU and Kentucky can be seen on the ESPN Game Plan pay-per-view package. The game can also be heard on WMEN-AM 640 in South Florida, and online at fausports.com. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. There will be an Owl Watch party for Saturday's game at Duffy's on 21212 St. Andrew's Blvd in Boca Raton. There will be free appetizers for FAU supporters. There will also be giveaways throughout the game, and FAU merchandise will be on sale.
