LAFAYETTE, LA - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team lost to Louisiana-Lafayette in four games (26-30, 27-30, 30-27, 25-30) Saturday afternoon.
The Owls (4-8, 1-1 Sun Belt) were once again led by Krystena Castro who had 16 kills while Katie Arvidson had 11 for the second match in a row. Morgan Johns had 10 kills and 14 digs for her first collegiate double-double. Casey LaRocca had 48 assists, putting her past Heather Chandler for second in FAU history with 3,034 for her career.
The Owls were up 21-19 late in game one before the Ragin' Cajuns took the next six points on their way to a 30-26 win. Game two featured 17 ties, the final one coming at 27 before ULL took the next three points to close out the game. FAU got out to a 13-6 lead in game three before the Ragin' Cajuns rallied to tie the game at 14. The Owls responded with a 9-4 run of their own en route to a 30-27 win.
Hitting efficency was the difference in game four as ULL outhit FAU .244 to .103 to help pave the way to a 30-25 match clinching win.
Kendall Utz led the Owls in digs for the second straight match with 17.
The Owls conclude their opening weekend of Sun Belt play on Sunday when they take on Louisiana-Monroe at 2 p.m. Eastern.
