MONROE, LA - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team swept Louisiana-Monroe (30-27, 30-23, 30-20) Sunday afternoon.
Krystena Castro and Mallory Deneen tied for the team lead with 11 kills apiece. The Owls (5-9, 2-1 Sun Belt) won a hotly contested first game that featured six lead changes and 12 ties. The game was tied at 25 when FAU ran off a 5-2 run, capped off by a Krystena Castro kill to take the win. Castro also played a big part in closing out the second game as she had two straight kills and teamed with Kala Abdell on the game-winning block in a 30-23 game two win.
The Owls powered their way to victory in game three behind strong serving as Katie Arvidson, Morgan Johns and Kala Abdell all had extended service runs as the Owls won the game 30-20 to clinch the sweep.
FAU outhit ULM .333 to .087 for the match on their way to the win. Kendall Utz led the Owls in digs with eight on the afternoon.
FAU finally returns to Boca Raton on Friday when they host South Alabama at 7 p.m. The match will be held at Grandview Prep due to continuing renovations on the FAU Arena.
