BOCA RATON, FL - After a victorious weekend at the FAU Classic, the Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team takes to the road for the first time this season to open play in the Atlantic Soccer Conference against New Jersey Institute of Technology this Friday.
The Owls (3-3-0) took both ends of last weekend's FAU Classic with wins over Iona College (1-0, 2OT) and Georgia State (2-0). Gianni Piccoletti scored the golden goal in double overtime to beat the Gaels on Friday, while Shire Standnes and Dag Bjorgum each logged markers in Sunday's win over the Panthers.
Goalkeeper Phillip Lamarre claimed two honors over the weekend - Most Valuable Player of the FAU Classic and Atlantic Soccer Conference Goalkeeper of the Week. The sophomore posted two shutouts over the weekend, running his current scoreless streak to 200 minutes.
NJIT (1-4-0) is led by two-time defending ASC Player of the Week Erik Magnusson, who has had a hand in all four of the Highlanders' goals to date. The sophomore scored three goals in as many games last week, including a two-goal effort in a 2-0 win at San Diego State. The native of Sweden has 7 points (3G, 1A) to go with nine shots on the season.
Following their match with NJIT, Florida Atlantic will head north to Riverdale, NY to face Manhattan on Sunday. The Jaspers (1-4-0) feature a second-year starter in goal, junior John Ciano. His shutout effort last Saturday propelled the team to its first victory of the season over Philadelphia University, 1-0.
Friday's game with NJIT begins at 7 p.m., while Sunday's contest against Manhattan is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. with live stats available at www.gojaspers.com.
