BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's men's soccer team earned two individual honors, as the Atlantic Soccer Conference named Phillip Lamarre Goalkeeper of the Week and Gianni Piccoletti Rookie of the Week on Monday.
Lamarre was earlier named Most Valuable Player of the FAU Classic, logging two shutout performances during last weekend's action. The Margate, FL native turned aside two shots in both a 1-0 double overtime win over Iona College and a 2-0 victory against Georgia State - totaling four saves for the event. The sophomore leads all ASC goalkeepers in shutouts with two on the season.
"He's been quite solid in all of our games - in those we had success in, and those we didn't," Head Coach Kos Donev said. "He's keeping us in games and giving us the best possible chance for a positive result."
Piccoletti has developed into a pleasant surprise for the Owls, notching his first goal of the season in dramatic fashion in FAU's triumph over Iona. The freshman's timely header, off a corner kick by senior captain Diego Monsalve, supplied the golden goal for Florida Atlantic and propelled them to consecutive victories at the FAU Classic.
"Gianni has shown some positive things, specifically in the part of the field where he gets in position for the headers," Donev said. "He's kind of come out of nowhere, but he's made the most of the time he's had."
