Justine Petry had 17 kills in a losing effort as the Florida Atlantic University volleyball team lost to Furman in four games.
The Owls took game one 30-15 on the strength of a 12-5 run midway through the game. Both Justine Petry and Krystena Castro had six kills in the game. Game two was a back and forth affair that featured 15 ties and five lead changes. FAU was leading 29-27, just one point away from taking a commanding two games to none lead when Furman's Chibuzo Agoucha served the Paladins to four consecutive points to win the game 31-29. Agoucha had two kills an ace during the run.
Furman started game three fast and pulled away ending the game on a 15-4 run on their way to a 30-15 victory. Game four was a nip and tuck battle, similar to game two. A Kala Abdell kill tied the game at 19. An 11-5 Furman run, capped by a Chibuzo Agoucha ace, gave the Paladins a 30-24 win to clinch the match.
Krystena Castro had 16 kills and hit .462 for the match. Kendall Utz had a match-high 17 digs for the Owls. Casey LaRocca had 43 assists for FAU. The Owls fall to 1-3 on the season. They will retake the court at 11 a.m. eastern when they face Wisconsin-Green Bay before taking on host Drake at 8:30 p.m.
