Florida Atlantic University put on the full pads for the first time this fall in Tuesday's practice, barely eluding the lightning at the end to get the session in.
Today's practice spent more time on team drills and seven-on-seven drills. Both the offensive and defensive units worked on blitzes. Quarterback Rusty Smith had a solid day, hitting wide receiver Cortez Gent on a long pass in seven-on-seven workouts, and finding freshman Lester Jean on deep passes during full team workouts. But while the offense is making progress, Head Coach Howard Schnellenberger sees more room with for improvement with his team. "We've got the right people out there that have the capacity to get through and be better than they were a year ago. I would like to have seen them be a lot sharper and smoother than they were."
FAU will hold its first three-a-day practices tomorrow. The first practice is at 8 a.m., second practice will be at 10:30 a.m. And the Owls will host their first scrimmage of the season in the afternoon session, beginning at 4:30 p.m. All sessions are open to the public. On Saturday, August 17th, FAU will host Fanfest 2007 at the FAU track & field complex. Festivities get underway at noon and are free to the public.
