The Florida Atlantic University track team finished eighth at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships over the weekend. The team also finished eighth at the Sun Belt Indoor Championships in February.
Trisha Doyle got the Owls off to a good start Friday night, finishing third in the 10,000 meters in a school record time of 38:37.29. Doyle's performance came almost six months to the day after her last race, the NCAA Cross Country Regional in November. Toyria Mattear finished with 4,115 points in her first ever heptathlon, good for seventh place.
In Saturday's only track event final, Friederike Feil nabbed second place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:59.56. The 4x100 relay team posted a fourth place finish in Sunday first running event final. Friederike Feil soon followed with another second place finish, this one in the 1500 meters, in 4:37.84. Yanique Booth would post another NCAA Regional qualifying time, running a 13.65 to finish second in the 100-meter hurdles.
Patricia Gumbs finished fourth in the 800 meters in 2:20.52 to provide the Owls with key points. Brittany Vollmer finished the 400-meter hurdles, in 1:03.42, good for seventh place. In the 200 meter dash, Kerry-Ann Stewart and Malika Clary finished 5th and 7th with times of 24.11 and 24.31 seconds respectively.
In the meet's final event, the 4x400 relay team of Brittany Vollmer, Toyria Mattear, Kerry-Ann Stewart and Malika Clary gave FAU a third automatic entrant to the NCAA Regional, finishing third in 3:41.48, more than half of a second lower than the qualifying mark.
FAU ended the weekend with nine Top-10 finishes and will be represented in the 100 meter hurdles (Yanique Booth), 3,000 meter steeplechase (Friederike Feil) and the 4x400 meter relay at the East Regional in Gainesville, FL.
