BOCA RATON, FL - On Friday the Florida Atlantic University football team held their final practice before their first scrimmage this weekend. The afternoon session was full of drills and several simulated team plays.
"We have a lot of good things going on the practice field right now," said Head Coach Howard Schnellenberger. "We're not even half way done yet in the spring and some of our injured guys can still come back."
After some light stretching and conditioning, both sides broke off into unit drills. Defensive tackles and ends spent a good chunk of time focusing on block reactions. Linebackers worked on anchor tech and pass breaks. On the offensive side, both receivers and half-backs worked on ball-handling and route assignments.
In the seven-on-sevens, Sean Clayton found DiIvory Edgecomb on a bootleg for a 10 yard-pick up. For the second time this spring Chris Bonner came up with a huge grab, running into the end zone on a 40-yard throw from Rusty Smith.
The team session was split into first and 10, third and long, and red zone simulations. Taheem Acevedo barreled into a receiver on a toss play that prevented a catch. Sean Clayton found Frantz Simeon on a 15-yard sideline pattern, with Simeon able to tip-toe the line to make the catch.
FAU's first spring scrimmage is tentatively scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday. The event is free and open to the public.
