The Florida Atlantic University track team will compete in the historic Florida Relays this Friday and Saturday in Gainesville, FL.
FAU will be looking to continue its great start to the outdoor season. Yanique Booth had her third qualifying time of the season over the weekend. Many other runners just missed qualifying while setting personal records.
"We're starting to focus on technique and correcting mistakes in our (running) form. We're still making mistakes, but they are smaller and less frequent," said FAU Head Track Coach Alex Smolka.
The Florida Relays, which began in 1939 traditionally hosts some of the best high school and college track athletes from around the country and will return from a one-year hiatus. The meet will also give the Owls a preview of what to expect in the postseason, as Gainesville will host this year's East Regional. The Owls have usually fared well at the event and with the team's performance so far this season, Coach Smolka is looking forward to the meet.
"We're going to focus primarily on relays. We want to try and have the 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay team qualify for NCAA. We have a couple of people competing as individuals, but the relays are our main focus this weekend."
