Two school records fell as the Florida Atlantic University track team competed at the Disney World Invitational over the weekend.
Several Owls fell just short of NCAA Regional automatic qualifying times and many set personal records at the meet. Jordan Zwick would get the festivities underway on Thursday night by setting a new school record in the 5,000 meters in a time of 16:23.71, shattering the previous record by almost 22 seconds. Yanique Booth broke the school record in the 100 meter hurdles yet again, this time in 13.43 seconds, which is the best in the Sun Belt so far this year. It is also Booth's second automatic NCAA Regional qualifying time of the season in the event.
Eight Owls would set personal records over the weekend including Trishauna Clarke, who narrowly missed an automatic qualifying time in the 200-meter dash, finishing seventh in 24.13. The Owls 4x100 team finished second in 46.14 seconds, missing an automatic qualifying time by less than four-tenths of a second.
"We gave a really great showing," Head Coach Alex Smolka said after the meet. "It was a great effort in a competitive field."
The Owls will split up next week with several athletes going to Baton Rouge to compete in the LSU Tiger Invitational, while some will be competing in the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, CA.
