Owls Host Minutewomen, Mean Green

BOCA RATON, FL - After completing the fifth and final home tournament last week, the Florida Atlantic University softball team will face Massachusetts in a doubleheader on Monday and North Texas in a three game series this weekend as Sun Belt Conference play resumes.
Jen Musillo, the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week, threw two complete-game shutouts over the weekend, blanking Michigan State and no. 3 Texas A&M on a combined three hits. She struck out a career-high 15 in the one-hitter against the Aggies. She now leads the team in ERA at 1.38 and wins with six. She has three shutouts on the year and opponents are batting .183 in 76.0 innings against the senior. The Tequesta, FL native has struck out 89 and walked just 24 on the season. FAU has a 1.89 team ERA and held opponents to a .217 batting average.
Junior Lauren Crandall and senior Mandie Fishback pace the offense for the Owls (17-12, 0-3 SBC). Crandall is batting .340 with nine RBI and 11 runs scored while Fishback has provided extra-base power with a .330 average, seven doubles, two triples and a home run while driving in a team high 16. FAU is batting .251 as a team with nine home runs.
UMass (10-11-1), who took part in last weekend's Parents' Weekend Tournament but did not face FAU, sticks around in South Florida to play a doubleheader on Monday. The Minutewomen went 2-3 in the tournament, falling twice to Michigan State.
Candice Molinari is the leading offensive force for UMass, batting .394 with eight RBI. Lauren Proctor (.338, 13 RBI) is also a bat to look out for. The Minutewomen are batting .271 as a team with eight home runs.
Brandice Balschmitter (7-8) is the team's ace in the circle, posting a 2.03 ERA in 103.2 innings of work. She's held opponents to a .227 batting average, striking out 91 and walking 20. Bailey Sanders (3-3) is the only other player to appear in the circle, posting an ERA of 3.20 in 46.0 innings of work.
North Texas (8-20, 4-2 SBC) will travel to Boca Raton for a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 6 p.m., and a conclusion to the three game series on Sunday at 1 p.m. It will be the final home series for the Owls until April 21 when FAU hosts Louisiana-Monroe.
Susan Waters is batting .350 to lead the Mean Green with a team-high five home runs and 16 RBI. Katya Muller is the other regular batting over .300 with a .310 mark and six RBI. UNT has struggled on the mound, with a team ERA of 4.70. Opponents are batting .296 against the Mean Green. Ashley Lail leads the team in appearances with 21. She has a 5-7 record and a 3.06 ERA.
