Florida Atlantic University will host its sixth annual 5v5 Soccer Fest on March 31 and April 1. The soccer tournament, which serves as a fundraiser for the soccer programs, featured a record number of 200 teams last year.
"This popular event has sold out the past five years, so we are asking teams to sign up early," said Brian Dooley, FAU women's soccer coach. "The community does a wonderful job supporting both the men's and women's programs here. All 100 percent of the money raised goes directly for scholarships and program enhancements."
The boys' and men's divisions will play on March 31, while the girls' and women's divisions will play on April 1. Each team will play a minimum of three games, plus a championship round for qualifying teams. There is an eight-player roster maximum (four field players and a goalkeeper on the field). The cost is $165 per team.
The age groups for youths are single age groups U9 through U16 and U17-18, while the adults will have a women's open, men's open and a men's 35 and over.
Most of the university's men's and women's soccer players were responsible for refereeing, registrations, cooking and concession sales for the 200 teams who took part in the tournament last year. Teams came from Naples, Jupiter and the Treasure Coast, in addition to many teams from South Florida.
Interested boys' teams should contact Kos Donev at 561-297-3711 or donev@fau.edu. For girls' information, contact Dooley at 561-297-3743 or bdooley@fau.edu.
There is a mail-in registration form available at fauf.fau.edu/soccer. There are no refunds if the tournament is canceled or changed due to weather. For more information, visit www.e-soccercamps.com.
