Boca Raton, FL - For the first time this season, the Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team will have a game telecast in the state of Florida. CSS will be airing this Saturday's match-up with Florida International University. The Owls are hoping to break the previously held attendance record of 912, set against FIU on November 18, 2000.
"Our fans that come all the time are the most loyal fans anyone can ask for," said Head Coach Chancellor Dugan. "If we can pack the burrow with people wearing red it will greatly benefit the team and the university."
FAU (4-21) (0-13 SBC) is still looking for its first Sun Belt win after two losses this past week to Arkansas State, 80-61, and to Troy, 66-60. The Owls led with less than one minute against the Trojans, but allowed Troy to get 12 of their last 14 points from the charity stripe. Florida Atlantic has caused at least 20 turnovers their last six contests.
Brittany Bowe had 16 points against Arkansas State on Wednesday, her second highest point total this year. The freshman has reached double-digits in scoring five times in 2006-2007.
Brittney Crenshaw and Shuteamia Brayboy had a productive game against Troy on Saturday evening. Crenshaw chipped in her second double-double this season, pouring in 10 points and 12 rebounds. Brayboy put together an overall solid performance, notching nine points, eight rebounds and six assists.
FIU (13-9) (7-5 SBC) had a four-game winning streak snapped last Thursday, with a 65-58 defeat to UALR. Laquette Ferguson was the Golden Panthers leading scorer with 24 points. She is first on the squad with 16.7 points-per-game and 53 steals. Point guard Iva Ciglar's 6.05 assists-per-game are tops in the Sun Belt conference.
The all-time series belongs to FIU, which own a commanding 19-1 advantage. Earlier this season the Owls fell to the Golden Panthers 76-59 at Pharmed Arena in Miami, FL. Mistoria Brown had 20 points and 10 rebounds, but FIU used a 49.1 percent shooting night along with 18 points and 15 boards from Lasma Jekabsone to claim the victory.
The opening tip is set for 3:30 p.m. Eastern time on Saturday at FAU Arena. The game can be seen on CSS on tape delay on Sunday at 5 p.m. Tune in for live coverage on fausports.com.
