In the fourth meeting between Florida Atlantic University and the St. Louis Cardinals, the Owls nearly pushed the Cardinals into extra innings in a seven-inning exhibition game. Robbie Widlansky hit a home run and Daniel Cook and Travis Ozga both had extra base hits as FAU posted two runs in the seventh but could not come up with another run to fall 3-2 to the World Series Champions.
The Owls picked up four hits off of five St. Louis pitchers and the FAU pitchers held the Redbirds to four hits.
"FAU hit the ball better than we did but they just hit it to the big part of the park," said St. Louis manager Tony LaRussa.
The Cardinals posted a run in the first with a double and a single and a leadoff walk came around to score in both the fifth and sixth innings. FAU did record seven strikeouts on the afternoon.
The Owls next host Villanova and Boston College this weekend. Firday's night contest with Villanova is slated for 7 p.m. with BC visiting on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
