Baseball Wins Offensive Battle 13-12

Facing a 12-5 deficit, Florida Atlantic University scored eight runs in the final three innings to defeat Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday night at the Rice Invitational. With the bases loaded in the top of the ninth inning, William Block scored the winning run on a balk.
After spotting the Islanders four runs in the first inning, FAU (10-1) responded with four runs in the third inning and took the lead in the fourth with a Robbie Widlansky RBI.
TAMUCC (9-3) stormed back with seen runs in the bottom of the frame as they picked up seven of their 14 hits in the inning, including a three-run home run by Chris Widner. After a leadoff double to start the fifth led to the 12th run of the contest for the Islanders, Joel Schmal entered the contest and allowed one hit over the final three innings as FAU put up seven runs in the top of the seventh.
Justin Martin posted the first two runs of the seventh with a two-run home run and William Block picked up three RBI on a triple to centerfield. Block added another hit in the ninth and moved over after Daniel Bomback was hit by a pitch and Justin Martin was issued a walk.
With the bases loaded, Trey Maldonado balked in the winning run.
Schmal earned his second win of the year after he struck out two and allowed only one hit in the three innings. Block led FAU offensively with a 4-for-6 performance with four RBI and two runs scored.
Nathaniel Harris suffered the loss to fall to 0-1 as he allowed one run on one hit.
FAU will play its final contest at the Rice Invitational on Sunday when it plays no. 19 Nebraska at 1 p.m. et.
