The Florida Atlantic University football team is preparing to get back in to Sun Belt play, as they face rival Florida International on Saturday in the Shula Bowl at the Orange Bowl, kickoff is at 7 p.m.
A full week of events begin Monday night. Assistant coach Kirk Van Valkenburgh will join host Dave Lamont for the FAU SportsPage live from Coyote Jack's on the FAU Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton from 7 to 8 p.m. There will be one dollar drafts and fifty cent wings during the show. Coach Van Valkenburgh will preview Saturday's game with FIU. You can also listen to the FAU SportsPage on WMEN-AM 640 in South Florida.
Head coach Howard Schnellenberger will be present at the first annual FAU-FIU dinner, hosted by the South Florida Touchdown Club. The event will take place Monday night at the Miami Shores Country Club. Also on Monday night, the FAU football team will be featured on Sun Sports' Tailgate Sunday Overtime at 7 p.m.
On Tuesday, join coach Schnellenberger and fellow FAU supporters at happy hour at Miller's East Boca Ale House, 1200 Yamato Road, Boca Raton. There will be appetizers and drink specials from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., as well as a chance to win FAU prizes.
Wednesday, coach Schnellenberger will host the coaches' breakfast, in the Founders' lounge in the Tom Oxley Athletic Center at 8 a.m. Breakfast will be provided free by Dunkin' Donuts. Coach Schnellenberger and his assistants will go over the scouting report for Saturday's game.
On Saturday, the FAU Owls take on Florida International in one of the last games ever to be played at the Orange Bowl. The Owl Club and the FAU National Alumni Association will host a pre-game tailgate party in the end zone of the Orange Bowl beginning at 5 p.m, prior to the 7 p.m. kickoff. Tickets are still available, and can be purchased by calling the Florida International ticket office at 1-866-FIU-GAME.
Also this weekend, the FAU women's basketball team will host the FAU Thanksgiving Classic as the Owls face Robert Morris on Saturday, and Samford on Sunday. On Saturday, mothers and daughters who wear matching attire to the FAU game get will receive half off the admission price to the game. Sunday is public safety day. All public safety officials who show valid ID will receive admission to the FAU-Samford game for only three dollars.
