BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team looks to get back on the winning track with a two-game road stint in Virginia over the next four days.
FAU (4-6-1, 1-0-0 ASC) begins its voyage in Farmville, VA with a pivotal Atlantic Soccer Conference showdown against Longwood University at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Freshman Gianni Piccoletti has assumed a major role in the Owls' attack, scoring his second goal of the season in the team's hard-fought tie against South Florida last Tuesday. Juniors Shire Standnes (3G - 6 Pts) and Liam Ogle (2G, 2A - 6 Pts) lead FAU in scoring through the season's first 11 games.
The Lancers (3-5-2, 1-0-0 ASC) stand tied with the Owls atop the conference standings and feature strong senior leadership from forward Sean Harney (3G - 6 Pts) and goalkeeper Brandt Youmans (1.04 GAA). Longwood has just one win in its last seven games - a crucial 2-1 overtime conference victory over Adelphi (9/29).
Florida Atlantic continues north to Charlottesville to face the University of Virginia on Tuesday, also scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
The Cavaliers (7-1-2, 1-0-2 ACC) showcase a dazzling offensive attack, averaging more than two goals per contest. Yannick Reyering, a 6'6" junior from Germany, towers above opponents both in statistics and in stature. The forward has already posted eight goals on the year, flanked by senior midfielders Chris Tierney (4G, 3A - 11 Pts) and Neil Barlow (3G, 3A - 9 Pts).
FAU returns home Saturday, October 20, for a conference game against Philadelphia at 7 p.m.
