The Florida Atlantic University track team will head to Chapel Hill to compete in the UNC Invitational on Saturday.
The meet is the second of the indoor season for the Owls, and the first since setting three school records at the Florida Intercollegiates on January 13. FAU set seven school records at last year's UNC Invitational and will be looking to equal that success this year.
"We went up there last year so we know what to expect and we can gauge how much we have improved from this point last year," Head Coach Alex Smolka said.
Malika Clary, who set a then school record time in the 200 meter dash last year, will be looking to better that feat this year, as she is scheduled to compete in both the 60 and 200 meter dashes. She will be joined by teammate Trishauna Clarke, who set the school record in the 55m dash at the Owls' last meet by a running a 7.15 in the preliminary round, before matching that time in the final.
Freshman Friederike Feil, who set the school record in the 3,000 meter run is scheduled to compete in the 800 meter run, the mile run, and will run in the distance medley relay. Amber Ferraro, a freshman from Ohio, who ran very well in her first collegiate meet, is slated to run in the 200 meters, 400 meters and be a part of one of the two 4x400 relay teams that will take part in the meet.
"Our training program has helped our young runners a lot, and that shows up in their performances," Smolka said.
The field at the UNC Invitational will be predominately made up of teams from the Carolinas, but the University of Miami will also take part in the competition.
