BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University midfielder Alicia Tirelli and Lynn's Gabe Taboada have been named the Soccerfla.com Players of the Week. The award is given to the top college players from a Florida school for his or her performance during the previous week.
Alicia Tirelli scored two goals on the weekend, an insurance tally vs. Mount St. Mary's (MD) in a 2-0 victory and the Owls' first goal in three games vs. No. 1 Florida State in a 2-1 loss.
Against FSU, Alicia Tirelli took a pass near the midfield circle. She dribbled past one FSU defender, split two more, and slid a shot past FSU goalkeeper Ali Mims in the 37th minute. The goal was FAU's first in 216:37 of play versus Florida State, spanning the three-game series. It was Tirelli's fourth goal in her last five games, and gave her a five-game point streak.
Exactly two minutes later, Tirelli almost scored again, on another outstanding individual effort, but her shot sailed just wide, narrowly missing the far upper corner.
Tirelli is a junior from Brandon. She played at Durant High School and was named to the State Cup Final Four Western Conference First_team. She played for HCU in 2003, Temple Terrace from 2002-03 and Black Watch from 1998-2002.
