Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic University Owls returned to the practice field on Tuesday afternoon. Their next opponent will be the South Carolina Gamecocks (2-1) who are coached by Steve Spurrier.
"They have big players like the other three teams we played this year," said FAU Safety Kris Bartels. "Their offense is strong, and it's going to be challenging."
The session began with punt and covers, followed by ball-handling drills for the offense. The defense spent time working on block reactions and board drills.
In the one-on-one receiver drills, Gerdel Merzius batted several passes away and came up with an interception. Conshario Johnson played strong, catching a 15-yard pass on a slant pattern.
During the seven-on-seven set, Rusty Smith rifled a 20-yard pass down the left-sideline to Avery Holley. Sean Clayton made an off-balanced throw across his body to Jason Harmon that was caught over mid-field and ran for a 12-yard gain. On the defense, Bartels was all over the field, nearly picking off a short toss to the near side.
Practice resumes tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
