Athens, GA - Two Florida Atlantic University men's tennis players competed at the Southern Collegiates held in Athens, Georgia over the weekend.
Olivier Sajous and Corey Smith, both freshman, faced off against some of the nation's best at the premier tennis facility in the country. It was the first college event for both players.
The highlight of the weekend was Olivier Sajous' 6-4, 6-4 win over Florida State senior and No.1 player Ytai Abougzir. Abougzir, the tournament's fifth seed, is ranked No.2 in the world and 27th among college competitors. Prior to entering college, Abougzir won the Australian Open junior tournament and was ranked No.1 in the country and No. 2 in the world in juniors.
"This was a great win for Olivier and for the program. This will help Olivier in his quest to compete at the NCAA tournament", head men's tennis coach David Komie said.
"Both freshmen competed hard and represented the university well. I am proud of them both and feel that we all learned a lot from the experience."
