The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team will try to capitalize on the momentum built by sweeping their two weekend matches. The pair of 1-0 victories, over Mercer on Friday night and Binghamton on Sunday, gave the Owls their first two victories of the season. They were also FAU's first two home matches of the season.
"We hoped that being at home would allow us to play better, and that's what happened", said head coach Kos Donev.
The Owls (2-3-0) play three matches this week, traveling to Miami to face Florida International on Wednesday night, before returning home to host Central Connecticut and Illinois- Chicago over the weekend.
"Conditioning is going to be important, but recuperation is more important. We have a lot of players with minor injuries, so playing five games in 10 days is really asking a lot", Donev said.
The Golden Panthers (1-2-2) also played Mercer and Binghamton over the weekend. They tied Binghamton 1-1 on Friday night before defeating Mercer 2-1 on Sunday.
Friday, the Owls will host the Central Connecticut Blue Devils and their leading scorer, David Harrison, who has 12 points through five games. Sunday, the Owls will play Illinois-Chicago, who are currently ranked 11th in the country by Soccer America. The Flames (4-2-0) have given up just five goals in their first six matches and have already defeated two ranked teams.
Wednesday's match against Florida International starts at 7 p.m.
