Irvine, CA - In her second event at the ConocoPhillips National Championships in Irvine, CA, Florida Atlantic University swimmer Ellie Weberg took seventh in the 200-meter breaststroke. It is the second top-seven finish for the Bloomington, MN native at the meet.
In the prelims on Saturday morning, she placed fifth with a time of 2:31.03 to earn a spot in the A final on Thursday night. In the final, she swam a 2:31.84 to place seventh.
Tara Kirk won the event in 2:28.46, edging out 2000 Olympic gold medalist Megan Jendrick with a time of 2:28.72.
Weberg now has a chance of being named to the 2006 Mutual of Omaha Pan Pacific Championships, 2007 FINA World Championships, 2007 Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool, 2007 World University Games or the 2007 Pan American Games. The teams will be announced in late September.
