Baseball Falls to FIU 13-10

Six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning ignited Florida International University's offense as the team defeated Florida Atlantic University 13-10, Tuesday afternoon in Miami. FIU managed one more hit than FAU with 18 on the afternoon.
Multiple run innings was the story of the afternoon as more than one run was posted in seven frames. Eight of the total runs came on four home runs, two from each team.
In the fourth inning, FAU (24-24) batted around the order as the Owls picked up four runs on five his. Alex Silversmith's two-run double was followed by an RBI single from Tyler Stevens to close out the scoring in the inning.
The Golden Panther (30-20) closed to within two runs with in the bottom of the fourth inning as the team picked up three singles with two outs at the top of the lineup. It was the first six batters on FIU's lineup card that did the damage as they went 16-for-28. James McOwen, Kurt Crowell and Corey Lozano all finished with four hits for Florida International.
FAU extended the lead to 9-5 as Owls' starter Will Mann left the game. The FAU bullpen then gave up eight runs in the next two innings as the Golden Panthers pulled ahead, while reliever Frank Gonzalez quieted FAU's offense in the final three frames. Gonzalez picked up the win by working the final four innings and allowed three runs on five hits to improve to 6-2.
Chris Salberg suffered the loss for the Owls and falls to 4-6 after he threw 1/3 of an inning.
FAU's offense was led by three hits from Jordan Hafer, Silversmith, Ovy Ramirez and Nick Arata. Hafer and Ramirez both added home runs in the sixth inning.
FAU will travel to Bethune-Cookman on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. meeting with the Wildcats before facing Stetson University in a three-game A-Sun series starting Friday at 7 p.m. in DeLand, FL
