Two Florida Atlantic University swimmers earned trips to the NCAA Championships with their performances at the Sun Belt Championships. Ellie Weberg will represent FAU this weekend in Athens, GA, while Kevin Bartell will travel to Atlanta on Mar 24-26 for the men's championships.
Weberg (Bloomington, MN) will be making her second appearance in the national spotlight. As a freshman she swam the 100 and 200 breaststroke and will return as a junior in both events. She crushed her previous school records at the Sun Belt Championships this season and set the conference and conference championship record. Her times of 1:01.58 in the 100 breast and 2:13.28 in the 200 breast were automatic qualifying times for the national championships and are the 10th fastest in the nation in both events.
The event will be hosted by the University of Georgia at the Gabrielsen Natatorium, Mar 16-18. Preliminaries will take place each day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the finals to follow from 7-9 p.m.
Kevin Bartell (Bakersfield, CA) will swim the 100 breast at the NCAA Championships hosted by Georgia Tech at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. The sophomore broke the school record, conference record and conference championship record with a time of 54.01 at the Sun Belt Championships on Feb. 16-18. His time was an NCAA `B' standard time and he found out last week that it was good enough for a spot in the meet. Bartell holds the 18th fastest time in the nation heading into his first national championship.
The 100-yard breaststroke will take place on Friday, March 24 with the prelims scheduled for noon and the finals for 7 p.m.
