After an outstanding start to the season, Florida Atlantic University swimmer Geni Burts has been named Sun Belt Conference Swimmer of the Week. The senior from Pembroke Pines, FL earned the first honor of the season.
Four meets into the season, Burts holds the fastest times in the conference in the 200 free, 200 IM and 400 IM. She won the 200 free in 1:51.88 against FIU and FSU and returned to win the 400 IM at the same meet in 4:27.45. On November 3, she won the 200 IM with a time 2:05.17.
She has won eight individual events this season and will guide the team into the Minnesota Invitational this weekend. The meet is the largest of the regular season for the Owls.
The meet runs November 17-19 at the University Aquatic Center. The prelims are set for noon on Friday, 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. The finals will take place on Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.
Several other swimmers currently hold the top times in the Sun Belt Junior Lauren Shue also holds three top times in the conference. A distance freestyler, Shue is tops in the 500 free (5:00.26), 1000 free (10:16.75) and 1650 free (17:00.46). The women hold the top time in 15 events.
On the men's side, Christian Baker ranks fifth in the conference with a time of 2:10.98 in the 200 breast, while Eren Onurlu posted the fourth fastest time in the 50 free (21.34).
