BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's men's soccer team will travel to Garden City, NY to take part in their first Atlantic Soccer Conference tournament.
The Owls are a confident group, having won two road matches over the weekend to assure themselves of a spot in the tournament. They defeated Howard 2-1, Friday, and Philadelphia by a score of 2-0, Sunday. FAU was led by sophomore Shire Standnes who scored three of the four goals over the weekend.
Freshman goalkeeper Phillip Lamarre stopped seven shots over the weekend including three on Sunday for his school record- tying fifth shutout of the season.
"We have really been playing well lately. I think we have really come together as a team over the past couple of weeks," head men's soccer coach Kos Donev said.
The Owls will be the tournament's no. 3 seed. They will play the no. 2 seed Hartwick in the semifinals, Friday. The Owls will be seeking to avenge a 6-0 loss to the Hawks on Oct. 14. That was FAU's last conference loss. Since that time the Owls have gone 3-0-0.
Friday's other semifinal features regular-season champion and tournament host Adelphi facing no.4 seed Philadelphia. The two winners will advance to Sunday's championship match. The winner of that match will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Adelphi and Philadelphia play in the first match at 11:00 a.m. followed by FAU and Hartwick with a scheduled start time of 1:30 p.m.
