Washington, DC - The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team defeated Howard University 2-1 on Friday afternoon. The game-winning goal came on a free kick by senior Borce Ancevski in the 86th minute. The free kick came after Howard's Marcel Storer was given a red card after receiving a second yellow card. Ancevski blasted a shot from 30 yards out that found its way just inside the left corner of the net.
The Owls fell behind when Haribo Kamara-Taylor scored on a pass from teammate Shakir Davy in the 59th minute. Ancevski's goal came just a little over a minute after teammate Shire Standnes scored on a header following a misdirection ball that tied the score 1-1.
FAU (5-8-1, 2-2-1 ASC) is currently tied for the fourth and final spot in the Atlantic Soccer Conference tournament with New Jersey Tech. The Owls hold the tiebreaker by virtue of their 2-0 victory over the Highlanders last weekend.
NJIT's final conference match is Saturday at Adelphi, who will host the ASC tournament as regular season champion. FAU's last match is Sunday at Philadelphia with a noon kickoff time.
If NJIT beats Adelphi...FAU must beat Philadelphia to make the conference tournament.
If NJIT ties Adelphi...FAU must beat or tie Philadelphia to make the conference tournament.
If NJIT loses to Adelphi...FAU makes the conference tournament.
