BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University football had its second practice session of the week on Wednesday. The Owls have a homecoming match-up with Arkansas State (5-2) on Saturday at 4 p.m.
"Arkansas State has a very balanced offensive attack," said head coach Howard Schnellenberger. "They are going to be a smash-mouth team that brings their all."
Practice began with various individual drills. The defensive tackles focused on the two-man sled, while several offensive players worked on route releases or box sprints.
In the team seven-on seven drill, Sean Clayton found Conshario Johnson open between three defenders for a 15-yard reception. The Owl receivers have 1,258 yards on the season. They are averaging 12.8 yards per catch, led by Frantz Simeon and his 264 receiving yards.
During team drills, Corey Small came up with an interception and ran it back for 20 yards. Cortez Gent showed athleticism at receiver, coming up with a diving reception on a short pass near the left-sideline.
FAU is back on the practice field Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
Notes: Coach Schnellenberger welcomes Owl fans to join him for breakfast at 8 a.m., Friday, Oct.27 in the Founders' Lounge located on the second floor of the Tom Oxley Center. Fans will be able to ask questions, hear from players, and get the inside scoop on what to expect on Saturday.
Coach Schnellenberger would also like to invite the band, cheerleaders, and FAU students to Thursday afternoon's practice session to make it a game atmosphere. It is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
