BOCA RATON, FL -- The quest for the Atlantic Sun Conference title continues this week, as Florida Atlantic University's women's soccer team will travel to Jacksonville to play the Dolphins (3-5-2) on Friday at 7 p.m.
"Records mean nothing when you get to conference game. Every game has its own importance. History has shown that they are capable of beating us, and we need to approach this game like it's the most important one we've played all season," head coach Brian Dooley said.
It will be the Owls' third-consecutive conference match.
The Dolphins are led by Keri Zwikker (three goals, eight assists) and Jenny Borschel (five goals). Zwikker currently leads the A-Sun in points (14) and assists (eight).
Dooley believes his team should be able to hold off the potent duo if they maintain their recent play.
"We've gone up against good players from other teams and been successful, so we won't change anything for a specific opponent at this point," he said.
The Owls (7-3-0, 3-0) are 5-8 all-time against the Dolphins. Florida Atlantic has won the last three regular-season meetings, but JU has knocked FAU out of the conference tournament two of the last three seasons. Jacksonville picked up a 3-2 OT win in 2002 and a 3-2 win in the first round last season.
Florida Atlantic currently leads the A-Sun in shots, goals, points, and assists. They are second in goals against, and currently tied for first in shutouts with seven.
Sunday, the team will play its first home game since Sept. 16. FAU is scheduled to take on the Golden Knights of Central Florida (3-6) at 2 p.m.
NOTES:
*Susanna Lehtinen still leads the A-Sun with six goals and three game-winning goals.
*Megan Coyne has allowed just one goal on the season. She has two solo shutouts and has split five others with Jessica Badders. Coyne's GAA is 0.19, tops in the conference. Badders is currently third in the conference with a 1.11 GAA.
*Ashley Mannarino broke the school record for assists in a game with four against Lipscomb on Friday.
*The Owls also set school records for shots in a half (22-1st half) and in a game (40) against Lipscomb. The 10-0 margin was the second-largest in school history.
