With a 3-0 win over the University of New Hampshire, Florida Atlantic University improved to 10-0, while the Wildcats fell to 2-9 in the first day of action at the Ocean National Bank Invitational. FAU held UNH to a .065 hitting percentage.
Attacking errors hurt the Wildcats as the team managed to record more kills than FAU but had twice as many attacking errors. Nine Florida Atlantic blocks contributed to the poor hitting percentage by New Hampshire. Justine Petry (Trumansburg, NY) led the Owls with five blocks. It was the second straight match the sophomore led the team at the net.
Kelly Paiva (Minas Gerais, Brazil) led the team with 13 kill followed by Katie Arvidson's nine. Defensively, Paiva and Dimitra Samas (Jamaica Estates, NY) both finished with 10 digs for FAU.
Two UNH players finished with double-digit kills. Emmy Blouin led all players with 15 kills and Erin Walker finished with 14. Libero, Callie Webster recorded 17 kills.
Casey LaRocca finished with 29 assists for the Owls.
FAU will close out the tournament on Saturday with matches against Boston College and Siena.
