Florida Atlantic University's Mickey Storey was invited to try out for the USA Baseball National Team on Friday. The freshman pitcher will attend tryouts June 27-30 with 38 other players vying for 20 spots on the National Team roster.
In his rookie season, the right-hander was named Collegiate Baseball's Freshman Pitcher of the year after he posted a 10-1 record, 1.70 ERA and seven saves in 95 1/3 innings. He held opponents to a .220 batting average and threw two complete games to earn an opportunity to try out for the team.
The final roster will be announced on July 1. The National Team will open summer play July 2 versus the Torrington Twisters in Torrington, CT before traveling to Japan and Taiwan.
Storey (Deerfield Beach, FL) is the third player to earn the opportunity to try out for the National Team. Billy Brown attended tryouts during his FAU career and former pitcher Danny Core played for the Junior National Team in 1999.
