Florida Atlantic University swimmer Eren Onurlu has returned to FAU after participating in the Turkish Winter Nationals earlier this month. The sophomore earned three first place finishes, a second place finish and was a member of the 400 medley relay that broke the Turkish National record.
Onurlu swept the sprint freestyle events by winning the 50-meter freestyle (22.86) and 100-meter freestyle (50.06). He also swam the 50-meter butterfly and won the event in 24.96. His one second place finish came in the 100-meter IM with a time of 59.06.
He will also have his name in the Turkish record books after swimming the freestyle leg of the 400-medley relay. The team broke the national record with a time of 3:44.37.
With his outstanding finishes, Onurlu becomes eligible to compete in the World University Games on August 7-21 in Turkey. The competition is held every two years and involves collegiate athletes from around the world.
Florida Atlantic University completed its first season in the Sun Belt Conference in 2005. Onurlu picked up a third and fourth place finish for the Owls at the conference championships in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events.
