Intense defense and excellent shooting helped lead Florida Atlantic University to its third consecutive win of the season, topping Bethune-Cookman College 80-46 on Tuesday evening. The 34-point win was the largest margin of victory for FAU since Feb. 14, 1998 when it beat Samford 98-59.
The Owls came out scorching hot, connecting on 54. 8 % of their attempts in the first half. FAU went on a 16-4 run from the opening tip and led 43-26 at the break.
The Wildcats were flustered by the Owls' full-court pressure, committing 18 turnovers in the first session. Shuteamia Brayboy and Shontavia Williams combined for six steals in the stanza. Brayboy added eight assist in the first half and finished with a career-high 14 assists for the Owls.
Sally N'Diaye scored a season-high 10 ten points in the first frame and ended with a career-high 14 points for Florida Atlantic, which improves to 3-4 on the year.
FAU stayed hot in the second half as they dropped home 15 of 25 shots in the session. Brittney Crenshaw scored all 11 points in the second frame as she was 5 of 9 from the floor.
The Owls held Bethune-Cookman to just 22. 4 % shooting on the night. The Cats connected on just 6 of 33 shots in the second stanza.
Missy Glaser added 11 points off the bench for FAU. Danielle Riekeberg scored a career-high 10 points as she was a perfect 5 of 5 from the floor. Williams led the Owls with seven rebounds to go along with 11 points.
