After winning its first Atlantic Sun Tournament this past weekend, Florida Atlantic University's women's soccer team earned a spot in the Women's College Cup. The team learned on Monday that it will face Florida State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Gainesville on Friday at 2:30 pm at Pressly Stadium.
FAU has only faced FSU once in program history. The two teams met in 2003, with the Seminoles taking the win.
"We kind of anticipated that we would be playing Florida State," said head coach Brian Dooley. "We thought we would be playing them at Florida State. Playing them at Gainesville, obviously evens it a little bit because now it is a neutral site instead of a home site for them. Hopefully that will help us."
Also in the bracket are Florida and Illinois who will play on Friday at 5 pm. The Owls have faced the Gators only once in 1995 with Florida earning the win.
Friday's winners meet Sunday, Nov. 13 at 1 pm in NCAA Second Round action at Pressly Stadium.
Tickets for the matches are $7 for adults, $3 for seniors and youth 12 and under. For more information contact the UAA Ticket Ofice at (352) 375-4683, ext. 6800 of 1-800-34GATOR, ext. 6800.
