Boca Raton, FL - New Mexico to Florida is a long trip. But for Cayse Kaveny, it was worth traveling the distance. She is hoping to continue her volleyball career after college on the beach...but she's not here on vacation.
The differences are big, and the trip was definitely a lengthy one. However, Cayse Kaveny welcomed the change and is now here to stay for a while. Who is she and why is she here? Well, as we keep hearing from our terrific athletes here at FAU, our coaches are the reason that most of them chose this college when they were looking in high school, or transferred here from another university. The positive attitudes that they display are inviting and refreshing.
In Cayse's case, she transferred from a major university in New Mexico to FAU to play volleyball specifically because of the coaches and players here. She explains that the level of commitment and desire is great, and that they are dedicated to creating a trustful, team atmosphere on and off the court. One of the things that they do is work on ropes courses to develop that strong trust with each other, and to learn to encourage one another in all aspects of their training together. This also teaches them vital skills for success in life. Furthermore this helps them to start putting a winning season together before it even starts!
Her parents have been a great support also. Her family has always been sports oriented and she's been playing volleyball since the fifth grade. During the recruiting process her Dad made a video for her to send to FAU, and wrote letters on her behalf. Obviously the coaches saw something they wanted and here she is! Cayse will continue to play middle blocker this upcoming season as she starts her senior year.
In addition to playing at FAU and helping the team become as successful as possible, she has some future dreams herself. She has always loved playing beach volleyball and is contemplating trying to find a partner to play with when she graduates. It is very difficult to do that, but Cayse knows that determination and hard work will get her what she wants, as it already has thus far.
Cayse, who earned All-Tournament honors at the Coastal Carolina Tournament last year, is one of nine upperclassmen on the 2004 squad. They are looking to have an awesome, winning season this year. We believe in them and in Cayse, and we hope to see them achieve their goals. With the awesome coaching staff, and the determination of the girls on the team, we know that FAU fans will have a lot to look forward to this upcoming year!
