Four Home Runs Highlight 20-7 Win

Florida Atlantic University opened a three-game conference series with Mercer University with a 20-7 victory on Friday night. FAU hit four home runs and picked up 19 hits to improve to 39-15, 17-10 A-Sun, while the Bears fall to 20-33, 8-20 A-Sun.
Robert Orton, Derek Hutton, Tim Mascia and Robbie Widlansky each hit home runs for FAU as it tied its season-high. Three home runs came in the midst of a nine-run seventh inning.
Mascia and Mike McBryde eached finished the night with four hits, while Mascia finished with a career-high six RBI. Each time the sophomore reached base he recorded an RBI.
Senior pitcher, Randy Beam (9-3) picked up his ninth win of the season with five innings of work. The left-hander struck out four batters and allowed one run on three hits as the Bears scored in the first inning. Mercer picked up two of its seven hits in the first before a double-play ended the inning.
Beam exited with an 11-1 lead when Bobby DeMichael, Mark Culp and Will Mann entered in relief. The Bears posted six runs on the board in the sixth inning off of DeMichael and Culp before Mann recorded the final out of the inning and earned his first career save after he threw 3.1 innings and did not allow a hit.
The regular-season concludes on Saturday when the two teams meet for a 1 pm doubleheader. FAU will travel to DeLand, FL on Wednesday for the Atlantic Sun Tournament.
