Macon, GA - The Atlantic Sun Conference named Florida Atlantic University's Antonello Magris and Cristian Paiz first team All-Conference Wednesday afternoon. F.J. Schofield and Mauricio Paiz also garnered A-Sun recognition. Schofield was named second team All-Conference while M. Paiz was voted to the All-Freshman team. Magris, C. Paiz, and Schofield represented the top half of FAU's singles lineup and each was named A-Sun Player-of-the-Week at one point during the season.
Magris finished the season 8-7 all at the no. 1 position. The sophomore from Firenze, Italy missed FAU's first six matches but helped the Owls turn their season around. FAU went 12-3 with Magris in the lineup. During one stretch, Magris won six consecutive matches, twice recording the decisive point in a 4-3 victory.
C. Paiz was the other key ingredient FAU's turnaround. Paiz won 11 matches while just losing once at his no. 2 position. The senior from Guatemala City, Guatemala led FAU to 11 consecutive victories and a 12-2 record with him in the lineup. Paiz also combined with Magris in doubles. The tandem had a team-best record of 11-3 from the no. 1 position.
The most consistent player for FAU, though, was Schofield. The junior from Glendale, AZ anchored the no. 3 position with C. Paiz and Magris in the lineup. He played six matches at no. 2 without his two teammates in the lineup. Overall, Schofield was 18-2 in dual match play, leading the Owls in the win column. During one stretch, he won 14 consecutive matches and finished the season winning 15 of his last 17 matches.
M. Paiz held steady at the no. 6 position. Paiz, younger brother of C. Paiz and Guatemala City, Guatemala native, was 14-4 in dual match play, winning 10 of his last 12 matches.
As a team, FAU reached the semifinals of the A-Sun Tournament, finishing with a 15-6 record.
