BOCA RATON, FL - Fresh off of a record-setting night on Thursday, Florida Atlantic University hosts Gardner-Webb University Saturday night in its regular season finale. The game tips at 7:00pm at FAU Gymnasium. The evening will be highlighted by senior night as Jeff Cowans, Earnest Crumbley, Wes Edwards, and Jeff Hamilton will all be recognized before the game.
FAU enters the game 9-17 overall and 6-13 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Owls have clinched the no. 8 seed in next week's A-Sun Tournament in Nashville. On Thursday, FAU defeated Campbell 95-80 in a game in which four records were set. Crumbley set single-game records with 39 points and 11 three-pointers. He also became the team's all-time leading scorer with 1,525 points. The Owls' 18 three-pointers broke the old record of 15 set in 1999.
Mike Bell leads FAU with 18.4 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. Crumbley upped his average a full point to 13.8ppg. Pierre Tucker is also chipping in 10.0 points per game.
Gardner-Webb enters the game 8-20 overall and 5-14 in the A-Sun. The Bulldogs are coming off an 87-79 overtime loss at UCF on Thursday night. GWU has lost two straight and seven of its last nine. Brian Bender is the only player averaging more than 10 points per game with 12.5. Chris Wiggins averages 8.8. The Bulldogs are in their second year in the A-Sun and are still not yet eligible for the conferece tournament.
This is just the third meeting between the two teams. FAU defeated GWU in the two previous match-ups, both in Boiling Springs, NC. The Owls won earlier this year, 95-75, on December 15. They also took a 59-57 decision last season.
