BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University returns to the court Thursday afternoon for its final non-conference contest of the season. The Owls take on Colgate University in a 4:00pm tip at FAU Gymnasium. Tickets are available at the door. The game can be seen and heard on www.fausports.com.
FAU (1-7) last played December 22 in an 83-66 loss at UNLV. The Owls have dropped three straight, including two games at the Dodge Holiday Classic in Reno December 17-18. Mike Bell leads the Owls with 16.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game and ranks third in the Atlantic Sun Conference in both categories. Quinton Young is averaging 10.6 points. Rodney Webb, who is third on the team with 7.6ppg, has averaged 13.0ppg in the last three games.
Colgate, located in Hamilton, NY, will be concluding a three-game stretch in Florida. The Raiders are playing in the FIU Tournament that wraps up Tuesday night. Colgate enters Tuesday's consolation game against Binghamton with a 3-7 record. The Raiders were defeated by FIU, 72-56, Monday night. Last year, the Raiders finished 15-14 and sixth in the Patriot League. Three Raiders are averaging more than 13 points per game, led by Andrew Zidar's 14.8ppg. Jon Simon is posting 14.4 points per game. The team shoots 45.2 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from beyond the arc.
The game will be the first meeting between FAU and Colgate. It's the first home game for the Owls since December 14. After the match-up, FAU's final 18 games will be against A-Sun teams.
