MACON, GA - Florida Atlantic University's Mike Bell has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player-of-the-Week, announced the conference office Monday. Bell continued his torrid pace for the Owls, averaging 20.3 points in three games last week. It's Bell's first such honor of the season and third of his career.
Bell began his week with 22 points to lead the Owls over Campbell in the team's first win of the season. He went 8-for-15 from the field and connected for a career-high five threes. He also chipped in five rebounds and equaled a career-high with five blocks.
On Friday night, Bell posted 19 points and nine rebounds against Nevada in the first round of the Dodge Holiday Classic in Reno, NV. The senior from Raleigh, NC, scored 16 points and had four treys in the first half against the Wolf Pack, a Sweet Sixteen team a year ago. The next day, in the consolation game against Idaho State, Bell scored 20 points and added nine rebounds. He also made four threes. Bell finished the week with 13 three-pointers in 26 attempts.
Bell, the A-Sun's Preseason Player-of-the-Year, leads the Owls with 16.0 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. He has scored 17 or more points in his last five games. He is fourth in the A-Sun in scoring, third in rebounding, and third in blocks with 2.29 per game.
Florida Atlantic (1-6) is now in Las Vegas getting ready for Wednesday night's match-up with UNLV. It'll mark the second time the Owls have faced head coach Sidney Green's alma mater. The game tips at 10:30pm EST and can be heard on WLVJ 1040-AM and www.fausports.com.
