BOCA RATON, FL -- Florida Atlantic University (2-2) will look to extend its two-game winning streak Monday night when it faces Gardner-Webb in its Atlantic Sun Conference Opener in Boiling Springs, NC. The Owls will face the Runnin' Bulldogs for only the second time ever in a 7:00pm tip-off at the Lutz-Yelton Convocation Center. The game can be heard live on WLVJ 1040-AM and www.fausports.com.
In its last outing, Mike Bell and Pierre Tucker each scored 22 points to lead FAU to a 76-73 victory over Barry on December 6 at FAU Gymnasium. Earnest Crumbley added 14 as the Owls shot a season-high 51 percent from the field. Bell leads FAU and the A-Sun with 23.5 points per game. Crumbley needs 29 points to move into second place on FAU's all-time scoring list.
Gardner-Webb enters the game with a 2-5 record. Its last outing was an 89-59 loss at Colorado State on December 6. GWU's wins are against Elon (68-65) on November 18 and North Greenville (95-66) on December 2. Its other losses are against South Carolina, Clemson, Indiana State, and Kansas State. Brian Bender leads the team with 12.3 points per game. Simon Conn is averaging 10.1.
FAU leads the all-time series 1-0. The only other meeting resulted in a 59-57 win for the Owls last year in Boiling Springs.
The game is the first of a two-game road trip for FAU as it faces Campbell Wednesday night in Buies Creek, NC.
