BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University opens its regular season Friday night in a non-conference game at South Florida. The game begins at 7:00pm and can be heard live on WLVJ 1040-AM and www.fausports.com. The game will also be the first of the year for the Bulls.
FAU returns eight players from last year's team, including five seniors. Earnest Crumbley and Jeff Cowans, both seniors, are the team's top scorers from a year ago. Crumbley led the team with 16.2 points per game while Cowans chipped in 14.6. The Owls will also be counting heavily this year on junior college transfer Mike Bell. The Palm Beach Community College product led the team in its two exhibition games, averaging 20.0 ppg.
The Owls trail the all-time series with the Bulls 7-0. The last time the teams met was December 13, 1999 at FAU Gymnasium. It's the first time in nearly five years FAU has taken on USF in Tampa.
The game is the first of two for FAU on the road to start the season. On Tuesday, the Owls will face Georgia in Athens.
