Florida Atlantic University received two National Letters of Intent from local baseball players on Friday during the early signing period. Dan Terpak an outfielder from Coral Springs, FL and left-handed pitcher Jason Doherty (Lake Worth, FL) bring the commitment total to seven.
As a junior at Taravella High School, Dan Terpak tallied 28 RBI with a .365 average and earned Second Team All-County honors. Terpak, who was a teammate of current FAU player Robbie Widlansky, participated in the Area Code game and played summer league with the Coral Springs Pokers.
"Dan is a wonderful kid," stated recruiting coordinator John McCormack. "His enthusiasm for baseball is unmatched. I am looking forward to coaching this young man. His talents will allow him to contribute right away."
The second junior college transfer to sign this year is Palm Beach Community College pitcher Jason Doherty. A reliever for the Panthers, Doherty finished with a 1.17 ERA in 37 innings pitched and a 1-1 record in 2003.
"Jason is a seasoned veteran. He will make an immediate impact on this team. He has a great understanding of what his talents are and how to get hitters out. I look for him to have a very good career at FAU," said McCormack.
Florida Atlantic is entering its 11th season at the Division I level and is led by head coach Kevin Cooney. Cooney has coached at FAU for 16 seasons and has amassed a 565-362-4 record.
